Somm

Think being a sommelier is all about drinking wine, walking through vineyards and popping corks for giggles? Think again.

In an upcoming documentary delving into a world heretofore seen as “snobby,”–or at the very least, exclusive–the film Somm follows four would-be sommeliers as they test (and taste) their way through the rigorous demands of the Court of Master Sommeliers, one of the highest governing and certificate-granting bodies within the wine industry. I can’t begin to describe how much of a good time I had at this year’s inaugural Austin Food & Wine Festival. The awesome food, music, and Texas characters were great to be a part of. One of my favorite aspects was also seeing Food Republic there in their W Austin test kitchen and interview lounge.  They caught up with some of my good friends, like Andrew Zimmern and Tim Love.

I even sat down with Tim for an extended talk about BBQ, food cultures, and traditions in our restaurants. Check out the video of our interview below and for more Austin Food & Wine Festival coverage, check out Food Republic here. Read More

New Video for NYC Taxi: Teaming Up with AOL and Citizen Schools

By mahir | June 21, 2011

I really enjoyed teaming up with AOL to host students Citizen Schools stop by Red Rooster recently.  It’s an organization very close to my heart, so it means a lot to me to have them come by the restaurant for a tour and “Incredible Edibles” apprenticeship. It’s great to show young kids just how important community is so that they grow up and want to be just as involved. Red Rooster is a great source of community for Harlem no matter what age you are!

For a sneak peak of the video that will be appearing in New York Taxi Cabs this week, check out the video here.  Read More
