On set with Ann for Today Show segment

We’re closing in on week one of the “Yes, Chef” tour and the reception to the book has exceeded all my wildest expectations. My amazing PR team and I hit the ground running with two segments at the Today Show on Tuesday morning where we demo’d my mother’s cabbage rolls with Ann Curry (good luck and thank you for your kind words), and had some fun with Hoda, Kathie Lee and my “Yes, Chef” cocktail.  Read More

A Big Thank You to my Harlem Community

Harlem Swing Dance Society

The rain came and went, but under the awning of the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater the party was in full swing. Literally. Swing dancers jumped and jived their way around the stage to a crowd that didn’t seem to care about a few drops (and sometimes showers) pouring down. An electric Harlem crowd came out to celebrate the launch of Yes, Chef and what a celebration they got, thanks to all the participants that contributed to such a fantastic day. From the amazing singers of Vy Higgensen’s Gospel for Teens to Martiza from Harvest Home–there were so many people who made this day memorable. You have supported me at Red Rooster and now with the launch of Yes, Chef, but none of this would have been possible without you.  Read More

The sun is out and we’re running around to make sure everything is perfect to kick off our Harlem Day Community Event. It’s a big week around here and the excitement is infectious. Our Red Rooster chefs are heading over to the farmer’s market to pick up fresh foods for our cooking demos, DJ Qool Marv is tuning up his turntables, the kids are stretching for the yoga demos, and we’re bringing by our superstar bartender Lon to make up some mocktails. There’ll be dancing and music and expect fun giveaways and treats for everyone!

It was very important to me that we celebrate the launch of Yes, Chef with my Harlem community first, the day before my memoir goes on sale. The families and neighbors around Red Rooster Harlem and Ginny’s are the ones who make this journey worth it and I want to share this day with them.  Read More

“Yes, Chef”

By Marcus Samuelsson | May 15, 2012

Yes Chef

It begins with a simple ritual: Every Saturday afternoon, a boy who loves to cook walks to his grandmother’s house and helps her prepare a roast chicken for dinner. The grandmother is Swedish, a retired domestic. The boy is Ethiopian and adopted, and he will grow up to become the world-renowned chef Marcus Samuelsson. This book is his love letter to food and family in all its manifestations.  Read More
