The Future of the Harlem Dining Scene

The rumor mill was all abuzz these last few weeks as word got around that the burger empire, “Shake Shack” was making its way Uptown with a new location in Harlem. I for one was ecstatic that such a big name was heading uptown, the same as I was when Red Rooster Harlem opened its doors a few years ago. The rumor mill is just that a rumor, according to DNA Info Harlem and a spokesperson for Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group. According to Faith Hope Consolo, of Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate, although Shake Shack isn’t heading uptown any time soon, a lot of restauranteurs big and small are looking to bring restaurants and bistro’s uptown, on 135th between Adam Clayton Powell and Frederick Douglass Boulevard to be exact.

With all of the real estate developments going up in Harlem, it’s only a matter of time before new restauranteurs, looking for amazing diners,  all start to migrate past 110th street. The 125th Street Business Improvement District, has estimated that $1 billion in real estate development is planned for 125th street in the next couple of years. This impact on development will also bring the need for more places to dine. As the food culture continues to grow in Harlem, more and more consumers will demand amazing food.
