Food and Wine Rum Festival

9242868164_0fea670620_zAny discussion about rum is a discussion about Barbados, and vice versa. It’s been an integral part of the island nation’s heritage, history, and economy for over 350 years. And in that time, Bajan rum has garnered a worldwide reputation as some of the finest, silkiest, most complex and enjoyable rum to be found anywhere. With over 1,500 rum shops on only 166 square miles of island, finding the perfect spot to enjoy a fabled Rum Punch is as easy as walking out the door. The rum shop is the social and cultural hub of the island, and all are welcome.

Join Marcus for the weekend in Barbados for rum, cooking demonstrations and the real fish burger at Cuz’.

Food and memory are inextricably linked. FOOD & WINE Editor-in-Chief Dana Cowin convenes a panel of star chefs including Gabrielle Hamilton, Marcus Samuelsson and Andy Ricker to talk about how memories inspire their cooking. Some questions they’ll tackle: What are the chefs’ earliest food memories? What is the most memorable dish they’ve ever made? What makes another chef’s cooking unforgettable? Does chasing after trends ultimately lead to forgettable food? Can unhappy memories inspire delicious food? When customers take photos of their food, does it detract from their memory of the meal? The discussion will show how even a chef’s most technically accomplished dishes can spring from personal experience and reveal how emotion and artistry meet on the plate.

Date & Time:
Saturday, October 19
11am-12pm

Location:
Theater at Bumble and bumble at 415 West 13th Street between Washington Street and 9th Avenue
