Get Jazzed with Fernando Otero at Ginny’s Supper Club
By MarcusSamuelsson.com
Grammy award winner and Argentine composer/pianist Fernando Otero found his voice as writer, musician and bandleader when, at the urging of one of his music teachers, he began to incorporate the indigenous sounds of his native Buenos Aires into his work, as he did in his Nonesuch debut album, Pagina de Buenos Aires, in 2008. Mr. Otero has collaborated with flautist Dave Valentin, pianist/film composer Dave Grusin, and has sat in with Arturo O’Farrill’s Jazz Orchestra during their Sunday night residency at New York City’s Birdland while also performing his compositions with large jazz ensembles at Lincoln Center and Symphony Space.
The always adventurous Kronos Quartet commissioned a piece from Mr. Otero, which was premiered at Carnegie Hall on February 2008, a one movement work for string quartet titled “The Cherry Tree”. Don’t miss a spectacular night of jazz grooves and creative musical composition.
