Bread is a staple most people keep around the house, even out of habit for those on low-carbohydrate diets. This means for some people that bread frequently goes stale. Whether your go-to loaf is whole-wheat, multigrain, or a French baguette, there are endless great ways to recycle and make use of day- or week-old bread!
A basic (and potentially cathartic) way is to put the bread in a bag and crush it to make breadcrumbs – these you can use in a variety of ways, such as a topping for pasta or soup. Try this Horseradish and Panko Crusted Tofu Recipe for great texture and taste!
You can also slice a stale baguette up and bake it – slice it to make crostinis, such as the Mushroom and Fontina Crostini or Spring Crostini. For croutons, drizzle diced baguette with olive oil and bake to make croutons. Or dip diced bread into a cheese fondue.
For an entire meal, use the stale bread in bread pudding recipe – these can be sweet or savory and make great leftovers with lots of substance and flavor. Try Leek Bread Pudding, for a vegetable-infused version of the classic.
