Mark Your Calendars For Upcoming Food Festivals

Was the SOBE Wine and Food Festival not enough to satisfy those foodie cravings? Well we’ve got just the thing for you! With the warm weather comes food festivals galore! Here’s a list of upcoming food festivals, and by the time you read this update there should be plenty of time to secure non-last-minute flights and lodging, so you can indulge your inner foodie.

  • Green Getaways, Local Food & Travel Expo, Sat. April 14.  12-5p, tickets $13 (free for kids 10 and younger).  This local-centric event will feature food samples, wine and cheese tastings, ecological travel workshops, and a “Made in Brooklyn” marketplace.  Located at Skylight One Hanson – 1 Hanson Place (Historic Williamsburgh Savings Bank clocktower), in Brooklyn.
  • Village Voice‘s 1st Annual Choice “Streets” Tasting Event, Tues. April 24.  Running on momentum created by the VV‘s “Choice Eats” event, this spin-off will feature the VV‘s favorite mobile vendors, bringing the best of NYC street food to one place!  This exposition will take place on Tuesday, April 24th (rain date Wednesday the 25th) from 7-10p on Pier 86 of the New York Landmark – The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum Complex.  General tickets are still available for $30 and include all tastings and entertainment.
  • Austin Food & Wine Festival, Fri.-Sun. April 27-9, Austin, TX.  Everything is bigger in Texas, and this festival promises to loom as large as anything in the Lone Star State.  In addition to the food and wine exhibitions, Lucinda Williams and Mayer Hawthorne & The County will perform concerts.
  • New York Culinary Experience, Sat.-Sun. April 28-9.  If you have an appetite for a fully-immersed hands-on kitchen experience, this “culinary fantasy camp” is for you.  Though tickets are not cheap–they cost $1400 each, plus tax–they are all-inclusive, as they grant access to both days’ breakfasts, lunches, classes (yes, you may take home your creations!), Q&A sessions, and end-of-day private receptions.
  • ‘TAP’ New York Craft Beer & Fine Food Festival, Sat.-Sun. April 28-9, Hunter Mountain, (upstate) NY.  New York State’s finest microbreweries will combine with a tantalizing food menu, for a weekend in the Catskills.  There will be no entry for prospective underage visitors, so parents are instructed to plan accordingly.
  • Wine Enthusiast Toast of the Town (across three cities in the US): Thurs. May 3, Oscar Hammerstein Ballroom, NYC; Fri. June 8, Field Museum, Chicago, IL; Fri. June 22, National Building Museum, Washington, DC.  Sample 500 of the world’s finest wines, along with the dishes of 35 local restaurants, as well as live jazz entertainment.
  • Vegas Uncork’d by Bon Appetit, Thurs.-Sun. May 10-13, Las Vegas, NV.  Just like everything in Vegas, this promises to be an extravaganza of truly epic proportions.  The festivities will be spread among four Strip hotels: Bellagio, Caesar’s Palace, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, and Mandalay Bay.
  • 9th Avenue International Food Festival, Sat.-Sun. May 19-20, 12-5p.  An annual tradition and favorite since 1973, 9th Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic, allowing pedestrians to rule the street and roam among the pavilions from 37th to 57th Streets.  No “gate” admission–just bring money to pay for what you eat!
  • Taste of Tribeca, Sat. May 19.  11:30a-3p, Duane Street, in between Greenwich and Hudson.  This annual event will feature the cuisine of the area’s restaurants, making for a truly local festival.  Philanthropists take note: this, as always, will benefit Tribeca’s two public elementary schools, PS 150 and PS 234.
  • Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, Fri.-Sun. June 15-7, Aspen, CO.  Though the skiing may be out of season, this venerable who’s-who of chefs will compensate for the lack of snow.  Bobby Flay, Emeril Lagasse, Mario Batali, and others will all make appearances in the 30th anniversary of this Colorado showcase.
