Merlot And Appenzeller Cheese

By mahir | January 28, 2011

Weekend Recommendation

This weekend, kick back and relax with a glass of Merlot and a chunk of Appenzeller cheese!

Merlot is a popular wine worldwide due it its smooth consistency and flavor. While previously only used as an additive to other grape varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvingon, Merlot has come into its own and is well-recognized for it’s fruity and peppery aromas.

A perfect pairing with Merlot is the famous Appenzeller cheese of Switzerland. From the Appenzell region, this delightfully flavorful cheese surprises with a milky finish. The unique taste comes from a mixture that the rind of Appenzeller is washed in that includes wines, liquors and herbs.

This pairing can be enjoyed with some simple water crackers and dried cured beef, known as bundnerfleisch in Switzerland.

Close your eyes and hear the cowbells ring!
