This year, in honor of Black History Month and to celebrate the music of the great jazz legend Cal Massey, Red Rooster Harlem will host two tribute concerts led and conducted by revolutionary musician, Fred Ho, on Wednesday, February 22nd, at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Born in the 1920s, Massey’s soulful compositions continue to resonate today. His poignant works have been recorded by John Coltrane, Freddie Hubbard, Jackie McLean, Lee Morgan, Philly Lee Jones, Archie Shepp, and others. In addition to composing jazz music, Massey spent part of his career as a touring artist who performed across the country, including at Harlem’s original Red Rooster.
Both the 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. concerts will be held in Red Rooster Harlem‘s downstairs venue. Standing room tickets will cost $25 if purchased in advance and $30 at the door. Ticket will be available for purchase at www.redroosterharlem.com. A special Red Rooster 3-course dinner will also be available during the show for seated tickets. All attendees will receive a C.D. of Fred Ho performing Massey’s works. Doors will open half an hour prior to each performance.
