Red Rooster Hosts Press Luncheon for Fred Ho’s Cal Massey Tribute

By admin | February 3, 2012

To kickoff yesterday’s announcement of Red Rooster’s Fred Ho Concerts came a press luncheon in honor of Fred. Guests gathered at Red Rooster Harlem and joined not only the master musician Fred Ho, but also Taru and India Massey, son and daughter of Cal Massey himself.

Other attendees included the Wall Street Journal Jazz critic, the New York Post, the NYC Jazz Organization, and Red Rooster’s own Ben Barson who also contributed to Fred Ho’s album compilation.

The luncheon began with welcoming remarks from Marcus Samuelsson and Fred Ho and was followed by a short rendition of Fred’s Cal Massey Tribute on the saxophone. The musical piece was followed by a Red Rooster meal as guests engaged in conversation about all-things jazz and Cal Massey.

Among the honored guests were two of Cal Massey’s children, Taru Massey and India Massey Chambers. When asked how they felt about Fred Ho’s tribute to their father they stated, “We were amazed and speechless to hear about it and thank God that Fred resurrected our father’s music 40 years after his death. Through Fred’s hark work and effort, he’s helped keep our father’s music alive.”

Taru and India are very much looking forward to Fred Ho’s concert at Red Rooster on February 22nd as is everyone at the Rooster is as well. For more information about this special performance, click here and stay tuned for more ticket sale information on our website.
