Get Fit for Summer!

Memorial Day may not be the official start date of summer, but it is a great occasion to celebrate warm weather with treats like Spiked Watermelon. Summer is a great time to enjoy fresh produce, especially in the company of friends and family. The best part about this boozy treat is how easy it is to make. Literally, all you need is a bottle of vodka, a watermelon, and a knife!

One oversight of the geniuses behind the seedless watermelon is a texture that is not very compatible with alcohol absorption, so this will work better with a variety that has seeds.

Unlike ingredients such as cheese, coffee, or chocolate, this is a great time to buy an inexpensive bottle of vodka, because the fruit will mask any flavor from high-end alcohol. If you need guidance to choose the juiciest watermelon, follow these tips to make sure you choose a ripe one.

Spiked Watermelon Recipe

1 bottle (750ml) of vodka
1 watermelon with seeds, 10 lb or larger

Cut a plug out of the watermelon that is as wide as the neck of the vodka bottle and 2 to 3 inches deep. Save the plug and set aside. Fit the neck of the bottle into the watermelon and pour the vodka inside emptying it’s contents. Replug the watermelon and chill in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours. Slice the watermelon and serve.
