Yesterday I went on a city crawl like no other- a Street Food Truck Crawl! I joined MasterCard on their Priceless New York campaign as they begin to offer free lunch every Thursday for the next month in New York City. I got to join them a day before their complimentary food truck lunch kick-off for a food truck crawl of our own. I visited five great food trucks in Midtown along with a couple other food bloggers, Brian Hoffman from Midtown Lunch and Jamilah Lemieux from Frugivore Magazine. Some of my favorite food memories are from trying street food and food trucks around the world, and this food truck crawl was a great way for me to experience different types of food right in my own city.
Our first stop was a Mexican food truck, Mexicue. Here we tried beef and sweet potato tacos as well as spicy chili and pulled pork sliders. Mexicue is definitely a gourmet Mexican food truck and surprisingly authentic down to the Mexican Coke bottles.
Our next stop also helped put one of our favorite sweet treats on a new scale of gourmet- Kelvin Natural Slush Co. Founder of Kelvin Natural Slush Co, said he had always been a fan of the Slurpee but after working as an attorney in a large corporate law firm, he wanted a-go at his own company and decided to make a more adult version of the slushy with more gourmet flavors and natural ingredients. The result- Kelvin Natural Slush Co truck where we enjoyed some amazing flavors like Ginger Apple and the Arnold Palmer with Cherry.
Our third stop was a pretty famous food truck that has been seen on shows like HBO’s Entourage and Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, although their food is not very bizarre at all, it’s what the City does best actually- Pizza! Eddie’s Pizza Truck has it’s own oven which can heat up to 600 degrees to cook one of the fastest and most portable pizzas you’ll ever get out of a food truck. We tried their Chicken Parmesan, Sausage Pizza, and their Mushroom Pizza. It was definitely high quality, fresh pizza on the go! Next we had a taste of the East with Rickshaw Dumplings. Rickshaw Dumplings is known for their dumpling bar but they’ve now brought their dumpling treats to streets and are also available through their food truck!
Finally, our last stop was a perfect dessert treat- CoolHaus Ice Cream truck. This unique ice cream sandwich truck allows you to build your own ice cream sandwich with numerous flavors of ice cream and cookie combinations for your ideal sandwich. We tried some awesome flavors like Pumpkin ice cream on Oatmeal cookies, Bourbon and fig ice cream and also a Bacon ice cream on Chocolate Chip cookies. They were all unreal!
You too can enjoy a complimentary lunch from any of these food trucks and many more through MasterCard’s Priceless New York’s Food Truck Feast. It’s going on starting today and every Thursday until November 17th, from 11am-3pm at various locations throughout the City. Check out MasterCard’s Facebook page for more details and locations of all the food trucks. Check out our photos below from our Food Truck Crawl yesterday.
