It’s not a stretch to imagine the fashion designers enjoying a tipple or two after unveiling their latest collection during New York Fashion Week. In fact, it’s almost de rigueur: those Hollywood scenes of stylish parties, with bright young things clinking glasses didn’t come from just anywhere. With that in mind, we’ve decided to feature some of the week’s talent by not only giving a breakdown of their aesthetic and fashion sense, but also pairing them with a cocktail that would suit their persona.
Richard Chai is no stranger to the cocktail, having collaborated with spirits brands in the past to design libations benefitting Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS. Utilizing ingredients like grapefruit and pomegranate juices, along with sage leaves, Chai’s cocktails matched the crisp, polished looks he sent down that season’s runway.
The prolific designer is ever unpredictable, but his use of prints and fabrics in his forthcoming Spring 2013 collection can be assured. In that spirit, some liquors that combine his love of polish with his talent with color would be most appropriate. Taking our cues from the Godfather of modern cocktails, Jerry Thomas, here’s a take on an aromatic tipple combining vermouth and whiskey, something we’d like to serve Richard Chai to congratulate him on another successful NYFW show.
