In L.A. to promote “Yes, Chef”, Marcus joined Australian forager, farmer and author of “Whole Larder Love” Rohan Anderson for a evening of cocktails and conversation at Apolis: Common Gallery. A lifestyle boutique with an eye towards global advocacy, Apolis was started by brothers Raan and Shea Parton who encourage social change by promoting local sourcing and manufacturing. What a fitting place for Marcus, Rohan and moderator Elvis Mitchell of KCRW radio to speak on how their profession impacts community for Apolis’ inaugural speaking series.

After my demo and dinner in Seattle with Tom Douglas, I was stopped by these two guys waiting for me in the lobby of the Palace Ballroom. I don’t know how long they had been waiting or how they found out I’d be there, but these two young kids were standing there with a laptop and a couple of T-shirts with the words I AM ETHIOPIA written on them. My recommendation for this week is for an all-American classic: the perfect burger.  The Office Burger at Father’s Office in Culver City, LA is a must try!  I love the salty carmelized onions and bacon.  And the Maytag blue cheese, gruyere, and arugula makes this a truly great burger.  They really know what they’re doing at Father’s Office, so stop on by for a delicious dinner.  And don’t forget a side of fries!
I have finally finished my LA guide on Foodspotting. I really like Foodspotting as it makes finding and sharing food recommendations easier: Instead of reading and writing reviews of restaurants, you can share photos of specific foods you recommend and see what’s good wherever you go.
Here are my top 10 Favorite Dishes in Los Angeles. Everything from Korean food to Pizza, and of course it wouldn’t be a complete LA guide without a persian dish. The first person that spots 5 of the 10 dishes wins a signed New American Table cookbook along with the Marcus Samuelsson Badge. Enjoy and good luck!
For all the foodies in Los Angeles, be sure to check out my LA foodspotting guide. Currently the guide includes 5 items. The complete guide will have 10 items. The first person to spot all 10 items will receive a signed New American Table. Some of the items that are included in the guide are the Prosciutto di Parma, rucola, tomato & mozzarella Pizza from Pizzeria Mozza, Sushi from Matsuhisa, and 3 more must try dishes.
More guides to follow for foodies in San Fransisco, Chicago and everyone who wants to explore Ethiopian cuisine around the states. If you’ve missed my New York guide click here.
