The Taste’s Guest Mentor: Jacques Pepin

Jacques Pépin is a world-renowned chef, cookbook author and public television cooking show host. He has written 28 books, the most recent of which is NEW COMPLETE TECHNIQUES. His last book, ESSENTIAL PEPIN has a companion series, Pépin’s 12th Francisco and broadcast nationwide, and we’re excited to share one of Chef Pépin’s favorite recipes from the book, Les Oeufs Jeannette.

A participant in Food & Wine’s Aspen Classic almost every year since its inception in 1983, Pépin has been Dean of Special Programs at the International Culinary Center in New York since 1989 and an adjunct faculty member at Boston University since 1984. And he will be the last guest mentor for the finale of The Taste tonight, Thursday February 20th on ABC. Who will win in the showdown between Ludo and Anthony? Watch at 8pm EST to find out.

Christina Tosi is the chef, owner and founder of Momofuku Milk Bar, called “one of the most exciting bakeries in the country” by Bon Appetit Magazine. As founder of the dessert program at Momofuku, Christina helped Momofuku Ko earn two stars from the Michelin Guide and Momofuku Ssäm jump onto restaurant magazine’s top 100 restaurants in the world list. She is the 2012 recipient of the James Beard Rising Star Chef award and will be the guest mentor on tonight’s episode of “The Taste” where she will be judging the contestants for the appropriately titled “The Sweetest Thing” challenge. And because she’s considered one of the coolest ladies in the kitchen, she shares with us her recipe for Momofuku Milk Bar’s famous Compost Cookie. Read More

Self-described as “One part Southern soul, one part Asian spice, and one part New York attitude,” Chef Edward Lee moved to Louisville, KY from his Brooklyn home in 2002 and set up shop at 610 Magnolia. Using local ingredients and putting his training in NYC kitchens to task at 610 Magnolia, Milkwood (a homey speakeasy), and The Wine Studio (his dining room and cooking class venue), Ed Lee gained national recognition on the ninth season of “Top Chef” filmed in Texas. Considered one of the nicest chefs around by his peers, we look forward to seeing just how nice this Bourbon-loving, culinary darling throws down on The Taste, where he appears as the teams’ first guest mentor tonight, January 9th at 8pm EST on ABC.

The New York-based artist, who graduated from Columbia and Pratt Universities, will be our honored guest at Ginny’s Supper Club to discuss topics focusing on the conversation between art and food. If his art seems familiar, it’s because many of his pieces have been featured at Red Rooster and last week Derrick installed 6 new works in our private dining space. Tune in tonight, Thursday, January 2, as Anthony Bourdain, Nigella Lawson, Ludo Lefebvre and Marcus Samuelsson prime their taste buds to choose their team on “The Taste”. Sixteen competitors will be chosen based on blind bites they will prepare for the judges. Those who make it past the judges’ discerning palates will then be put on teams of four where they will face team and individual challenges with a variety of culinary themes through several elimination rounds. Surprising guest chefs of the highest caliber will then choose the winning taste each round.
