Queen Silvia greets the press line at Red Rooster.

“My mom called me this morning to tell me everything that could go wrong. She just knows what a big deal this is for me.”

The mood at Red Rooster on Wednesday morning was equal parts excitement and frenetic energy as the team got ready for the arrival of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden. Marcus’s nerves were no exception–the dry cleaner didn’t have his favorite shirt ready and it was pouring rain outside. But as they say, the Queen waits for no one and so everyone had to be on point for the royal luncheon. Read More

Maya and Marcus at the Three Goats Inaugural Fundraising Cocktail Party

The story of Three Goats began in November 2011, when Maya visited Ethiopia after reading about the water-crisis and resulting famine that was affecting her and Marcus’s birthplace. In an effort to provide relief to the devastated areas, they quickly organized a Brunch for the Famine in The Horn of Africa to raise money for much-needed resources. Maya flew to Addis Ababa and visited Mother Teresa’s Missonaries for Charity where they advised her on the greatest area of need for clean water and food. VIDEO: “Yes, Chef” B-Sides on Harlem Style

By MarcusSamuelsson.com | April 9, 2013

yes, Chef

Having lived in Harlem for over 10 years, I’ve seen the changes that have descended upon this neighborhood. Stores have gone up, and Lenox Lounge has come down. Restaurants have been pushed out and boutiques have thrived. Where there are complaints of gentrification, there’s a fierce  attitude to hold on to the history. But always and forever, Harlem is always about style. Check out the latest video for “Yes, Chef” B-Sides, taped at Harlem Haberdashery.  Read More

With the paperback version of “Yes, Chef” coming out on May 21st, I’ve been thinking a lot about the book tour that took me all around the country. At the time I could barely think ahead more than one day as we plane’d, train’d and automobile’d back, forth and back again. But as we prep for Part II of the tour for the paperback version, it’s been fun to think about all the adventures I had with my team who was on the road with me. So much fun, in fact, we did a video about it. Check it out. Read More

Macy's Cooking Class

Macy’s Herald Square sure is delicious. Marcus Samuelsson recently headed to the De Gustibus cooking school located inside of Macy’s on the 8th floor for an evening of cooking, laughter, and a great cause. Marcus: Yes, Chef: Charity Event  was an evening of demonstration class and tasting, showcasing Marcus’s journey through life and food in Sweden, Ethiopia and the hustle and bustle of New York City. De Gustibus recreational cooking school, founded in 1980, hosts demonstrations by the most superior international chefs and wine experts, and Marcus is no stranger to superior food. Read More
