This past weekend, the food scene took over NYC for the New York Wine & Food Festival. From the Meatpacking District all the way up to Harlem, events were taking place everywhere. I was lucky enough this year to participate in not just one but two events at this year’s fest.
On Friday, me and my team took part in “Rock & Roll with Morimoto” at the Harvard Club. We joined Chef Morimoto and a bunch of other chefs for a sushi-centric evening. The Red Rooster teamprepared yellowtail ceviche tacos and Asian noodle salad. Not to toot our own horns, but it was delicious!
Friday night’s event was super fun and it went till late but we were still up bright and early the next day for Target’s Fun & Fit Family Day at the Promise Academy, the Harlem Children’s Zone charter school on 125th Street and Fifth Avenue. The kids at the event joined me on the school’s rooftop garden to learn about fresh herbs like basil, oregano and mint.
We planted some herbs together and the kids took their own pots home so they could have access to them everyday. I also showed them how easy it was to prepare some yummy and healthy dishes and refreshing
drinks using the herbs they planted. It was exciting to see some of them try these flavors for the very first time.
