One of the most rewarding aspects of cooking is seeing the pleased look on patron’s faces when they get to try a dish of your own creation. Never have I seen such brighter faces than the ones on the kids from Harlem’s Children Storefront last year.  The Children’s Storefront is an independent, tuition-free school in Harlem, serving kids from pre-K to 8th grade. What makes their mission so inspirational is the belief that every child deserves the opportunity for an excellent education, no matter their income level or neighborhood.
I made my first visit to the school for a cooking demo and got to speak with the children about the importance of healthy eating. I was so impressed by the energy and enthusiasm from the kids. They even sent me ‘thank you’ notes and drawings after my visit!
