Crab Man Mike at Red Rooster

To celebrate the end of summer, Red Rooster hosted a crab fest on Tuesday with local Harlem legend Crab Man Mike. For those of you who don’t know this iconic neighborhood fixture, Mike hails from New Orleans and has been selling his fresh crabs in Harlem for years. After setting up shop on the corner of 125th Street and 5th Avenue, Mike recently moved to 132nd and Adam Clayton Powell where Marcus caught up with him and asked him to do a special event with us at Red Rooster.

With his bushel of crabs and clams from Hunts Point Market, Mike held court in our patio with his special pot and secret seasoning, ready to dole out crabs to the hungry guests. To the brass beats of Louis Fouché and his New Orleans-inspired band, guests feasted on crab, and sides like blue cheese slaw, bourbon mustard pole beans, mac and greens, and Mexican street corn.

The event was a great way to extend our celebration of summer and to be a part of a community that has meant so much to us. Stay tuned for more Fall events and thanks for all who came out!
