TGIF, and now what? Here’s a look at events around New York City that are worth checking out.

All weekend

The 9th Harlem Summer Shakespeare brings the wit and humor of The Taming of the Shrew to Riverbank Park beginning this week. Catch it any day this weekend, or Wednesday through Sundays until August 4th.

For the month of July, the Lincoln Center hosts a festival of culture-packed performances. Check out what’s on the stage for this weekend.

The New York Philharmonic will give free concerts every day this weekend in all five boroughs.

Friday, July 12th

Don’t miss the 125th Street Farmers’ Market on Fridays! In addition to fresh produce, find music and dancing from 3p.m. to 8p.m.

For the last time this year, the sun will align evenly with the city grid for dramatic sunsets. Take your pics of ‘Manhattanhenge’ from the very eastern ends of major streets (think 14th, 23rd, 34th, 42nd, and 57th).

Outdoor movies: Marius et Jeannette, The Breakfast Club, and The Pirates! Band of Misfits

Saturday, July 13th

Local seafood matters, a lot. Learn more about why at this Iron Chef-style cooking competition at the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket.

Rockaway still needs a lot of cleaning up, and they’re enlisting volunteers. Sign up before you go, and feel good about helping out.

Thinking about gluten-free living? Learn more about what that entails at a celiac awareness event from 10a.m. to 1p.m.

Outdoor movies: Brassland, Dracula, Heaven Can Wait, Pitch Perfect, and From Mambo to Hip-Hop: A South Bronx Tale

Sunday, July 14th

If nothing else, celebrate Bastille Day with an iconic French crêpe or croissant. But if the francophile in you wants something a little more exciting for France’s independence day, check out the 60th Street festival.

Outdoor movies: Mean Girls and School Daze

Happy Weekend!
