This Moment

Speaking from two of the most significant epicenters of these issues, Stockholm and New York City, influential musical artist Jason Diakite aka Timbuktu and internationally renowned Chef Marcus Samuelsson examine the fascinating current events through the lenses of their respective current countries, their deep roots in both places and the thoughtfulness of two of the world's most respected creative artists in their fields. Together, along with their vast network of compelling global guests, they are able to uniquely capture This Moment for us all.

Jason “Timbuktu” Diakité is one of Sweden’s most well-known hip-hop artists. He has released eight solo albums and numerous singles, the majority of which have reached gold or platinum status. Jason has performed all over the world, and is now the author of the critically acclaimed memoir A Drop of Midnight, which has sold more than one hundred thousand copies in Sweden, with subsequent editions coming out in Norway (Top 10 in the sales charts) and through Amazon Crossing globally (topping lots of internal Amazon charts). The book was also adapted into a stage performance. After a hugely successful run in Scandinavia it will premiere in New York City during Spring 2021.

Our Harlem

Listeners will get to know the iconic neighborhood, Marcus' home, through its food, its history, and - most importantly - its people. Special guests join Marcus each day of the week to cook, to laugh, and to share their stories, including Melba Wilson, Jelani Cobb, Bevy Smith, and Kevin Young, to name a few. Our Harlem transports listeners to the hub of African American culture.

Join us when Marcus recreates the short ribs he made at the Red Rooster for President Obama's fundraiser there, and when author Jelani Cobb discusses the lasting significance of the first African American President. Listen to Marcus explore the African and Southern roots of his favorite ingredients with food historian Jessica Harris, and make fried chicken with Harlem's very own Charles Gabriel. And venture out in El Barrio to La Marqueta with Marcus and Harlem native Aurora Flores.
